In 2018, with support from European Union, UNDP Libya had an agreement with Toyota Libya to provide young people with a three-month vocational training in maintenance and repair of cars (Vehicles) including computer skills, English language and writing reports.

This program called (Discover Your Talent) Toyota Libya has been implementing it since 2012 as a part of its social responsibility in Libya.
The UNDP has supported the initiative in 2018 as a project of “enhance the local abilities for Resilience and Recovery” sponsored by European Union and which was implemented in coordination with the Ministry of Local Government and several municipalities from eastern, western and southern of Libya.

In 2018, through this collaboration, 20 young people from several cities developed their abilities by training them at Toyota Libya. With the extension of this partnership, another 40 young people will acquire skills that will improve their chances of finding decent jobs to secure a decent life for themselves and their families.

On October 6, 2019, as a first batch, 20 trainees including IDPs from all over Libya, began their training at Toyota Libya Training Centre in Misrata, as for second batch 20 trainees will begin in next January.

With a joint support from UNDP and Toyota Libya F.Z.C, a new batch of 40 trainees will be included in this programme, including Internal Displaced Persons (IDPs), to develop their skills and improve their chance to find a job. The first training targeted the first group of 20 participants has started during the first week of October 2019, while the second training is planned to start end of January 2020. Toyota Corolla scoops ‘Best Small Sedan’ award at 2018 Middle East Car of the Year awards

  • A panel of 16 independent automotive editors from Middle East and North Africa.
  • The panel chose the vehicle based on ten different criteria

Dubai, UAE – May 06, 2018: Adding a new feather in its cap, the 2018 Toyota Corolla has been recently honored with the recognition for the best car in the ‘Small Sedan’ category at the 2018 Middle East Car of the Year (MECOTY) awards, the biggest and most prestigious awards program for the regional automotive sector.

The most successful production car model ever built was chosen by a judging panel comprised of 16 independent senior editors from leading automotive publications representing the Middle East and North Africa.

The 12th generation Toyota Corolla emerged as the winner after impressing the judges on ten aspects that have been set as the selection criteria for the fifth edition of MECOTY. These included design and quality; exterior and interior; handling and drivability; safety and durability; performance and capability; technological innovation; emotional appeal and driver satisfaction; value for money (new purchase and resale); environmentally friendly; regional appeal; and comfort and practicality.

Yugo Miyamoto, Chief Representative of Middle East & North Africa Representative Office, Toyota Motor Corporation, said: “We are extremely proud and honored to continue to be recognized at the most coveted regional automotive awards. The recognition of an experienced panel is a true testimonial for the outstanding appeal of the Toyota Corolla and its consistent offering of quality and value. The most sought-after car, which is synonymous with reliability, affordability, and fuel economy, has built a compelling reputation over the last five decades to become the favored compact sedan of our customers across the world and this region in particular. On this occasion, we would like to thank our customers and are extremely grateful to them for their continuous support and loyalty, and for making Toyota one of the most popular automotive brands in the region.”

The new 2018 Toyota Corolla was launched in the region in July last year with a choice of 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines and is available with a Multidrive 7S transmission to offer improved efficiency and driving pleasure. The Toyota Corolla also features a modern and dynamic design, a premium interior and an array of safety features such as Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD), A Tire Pressure Warning System (TPWS), Rear Fog Lamps, and is also available in eight different exterior colors. All these features help the Toyota Corolla stand out in its segment.

Since its launch in Japan in 1966, more than 44 million units of Corolla have been sold globally to date to establish itself as the best-selling nameplate in the world. With its 16 manufacturing plants, Toyota currently produces 1.5 million Corolla cars each year to reach its customers in more than 150 different markets.
